The Volens Family in Haiti

Volens has been present in Haiti for more than thirty years now. Throughout this period, we have been collaborating with many partner organisations in different regions of the country.

Since 2008, we have been active in the north of the island, on both sides of the border that separates Haiti from the Dominican Republic, with various partner organizations who are all involved on the theme of solidarity economy.

Their buildings are completely destroyed. The buildings of GARR (Port-au-Prince) and Volens Haiti (equally in Port-au-Prince) may have suffered lesser damages but they have been looted by strangers in the days following the catastrophe. The building of CROSE (Jacmel) was only slightly damaged. As for our collaborators, most of them have come out unscathed from the catastrophe.

The Haitian organisations with whom we have a partnership are:

RECOCARNO: A network of coffee plant cooperatives in the northern region (Cap Haitian)
Recocarno is an institution which aims at improving the quality of life of coffee producers and their cooperatives by making their production more profitable while keeping it environment-friendly.

VETERIMED (Port-au-Prince and Lemonade-Cap Haitian)
Veterimed help small Haitian producers to improve the output of their farm and the care brought to their livestock through training, research and technical assistance. The organisation also seeks to focus on other means for the agricultural development

SANT PON (Wanament)
Sant Pon works in the reinforcement and development of democratic procedures and organisational structures in order to allow the poorest in this Caribbean island to enjoy better and fairer conditions of life.

THE JUANISTAS SISTERS (Wanament)
The mission of the Juanistas Sisters is to enhance the awareness of their rights to the citizens so they may become agents of their own development.

CARITAS (Port-au-Prince)
Caritas wants to promote the establishment of a fairer and more human society by supporting projects in different fields such as agriculture, environment, women’s right, microcredit, etc.

CROSE : Regional Coordination of South-East Organisations (Jacmel)
Crose is a socio-political movement which coordinates the women’s, youth’s and farmer’s associations as well as the initiatives tending to promote the services and goods that comes from the solidarity economy.

GARR: Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (Port-au-Prince)
The GARR is an alliance of organisations dealing with migration issues and human rights and particularly the rights of Haitian migrant workers in the Dominican Republic.
